Q & A

Conventional wisdom holds that old concrete, with cracks, surface discoloration, or surface imperfections, must be removed and replaced if improving the look of the concrete is the goal.  It may be easier and more cost effective to just remove and replace concrete, but if that is not possible, resurfacing may be the answer for you.

Resurfacing concrete with a polymer-modified overlay system is a viable way to improve existing concrete surfaces.

Resurfacing can range from simply making the concrete look like new again, or upgrading the surface with a variety of colors and patterns.  We can use a stencil pattern or a stamping process.  The above plain concrete steps were fine, but now they are fabulous!  We used the stenciled pattern overlay system that utilizes a trowel and textured stamps. Two different patterns (soldier coarse brick stencil & random stone stencil) and two different colors (terra cotta and sable grey) are used.  Then the project was finished with a charcoal grey stone shading on both the bricks and the stones, leaving the original concrete as the grout lines.  This conversion would cost approx. $1,600.00 as it was very labor intensive.

Concrete Resurfacing Features

Our concrete resurfacing is a polymer/cement resurfacing system. It's sealed and non-porous, resists chemicals and withstands freeze-thaw cycles as well as intense heat and ultraviolet sun rays. It can easily be applied over existing surfaces such as old concrete.  Indoor floors must be concrete, such as a basement or many commercial floors.

Usage

Resurfacing  renews instead of removes; enhances property values; and, is a cost effective way of addressing the continual problems of existing surface deterioration and ongoing surface maintenance which is so prevalent in high traffic and commercial surface areas. New surface projects are equally benefited by the strong, durable and attractive finish with lasting protection which is assured.

What is an Acceptable Surface to be Resurfaced?

Small plastics shrinkage cracks or crazing cracks can be covered by the polymer prime coat and base coat of the resurfacing material.  Larger cracks must be repaired.  In any case, the underlying concrete for a resurfacing project must be sound. It is not feasible to resurface concrete that is heaving, has severe cracks, or is damaged due to freeze/ thaw damage. Resurfacing will not solve underlying soil problems.

Maintenance

The result is an outstanding, durable and attractive surface which is amazingly easy to maintain with normal household detergents. Safety considerations are enhanced by the increased slip resistance of the surfaces.
